Benefits of Minimalism....

Design aficionado will know that minimalism is a growing trend among modern interior designers. But why is minimalism so popular? For those who might be unfamiliar with the term, minimalism is a design concept that strips things down to their bare essentials – a chair will just be a chair, not a chair/cup holder/sculpture. Minimalism seeks to bring out the core of our interiors, enhancing their functionality while minimizing the unnecessary details and flourishes.

Some people have argued that along with stripping design of its “extras”, minimalism also strips it of its style. Without the little details that makes every piece unique, how can you create an inviting, beautiful space? We’re here to tell you that minimalism can achieve just this, if the right balance is achieved. Here are three benefits of minimalism that we think you’ll love, even if you only incorporate it into one room or add minimalist elements slowly to your home.

1. Reduced clutter and more peace of mind. Minimalism is all about trimming the fat of the often excessive modern design trends. A fully minimalist room will naturally be clutter-free, as clutter is hidden by chunky cabinets and concealed closets. Along with less clutter, a minimalist room will give you a subtle peace of mind, as you survey complete Zen in your surroundings.

Sunrise, Sunset

The sublime awe that we feel when we look at the sun setting or rising on the horizon can be incorporated into our everyday experiences with a little interior design know-how. Golden edged blues, deep purples, incandescent yellows and oranges all can be used to recreate the natural feeling of a sunrise or sunset. It’s not just about colors, either: you can use different textures to throw some reflections across your room, to add that uncanny glow. Nothing can compare to waking up to a real sunrise or sitting with your significant other watching a sunset, but this feeling can be incorporated into your home if you work with the colors and textures found in nature.

Textured Fabrics

The recent developments in interior design show a love of fabric – but not in the ways we’re used to. In the past, modern design used fabric as an accent color or pattern. Adding some animal stripe throws or rich burgundy pillows seemed the natural way to incorporate fabric into otherwise leather- and chrome- heavy rooms. However, now we are seeing a resurgence of fabric for the love of fabric. Using a variety of fabrics to enhance the textures in your room is a great way to stay ahead of the design curve. Off-beat fabrics such as burlap and floral sheer linen can be just the accents you need for success.

Chrome is back..

Ah chrome. In the 50s and 60s, this was the ultimate modern material. Anything with a bit of chrome simply radiated technological advancement, superiority, and innovation. Now, we’ve all gotten over chrome as a symbol of modernity, and instead have incorporated it into interior design as an accent, a subtle nod to its brilliant shine. Consider using chrome in a tasteful display, as it frames your loveseat or adorns your dresser’s knobs. Chrome accents are a great way to add some vibrancy to a room that feels a little lifeless, but don’t go overboard. You can even find pieces that meld chrome and aged wood or other more natural materials, for a jarring, but attractive, combination of the old and the new.

Building your own oasis..

Sometimes interior design trends are more of an idea than any particular style. In today’s busy world of deadlines, gadgets, family demands, commutes and the like, there is an increasing demand for an area of calm. As an individual, you need to design your living space to act as an oasis of serene, uncomplicated being. However you want to approach this, whether it is by taking elements of modern and minimalist style or by collecting items from flea markets, your home should be a haven where you can relax, feel safe, and unburden your body and your mind. You don’t have to follow any interior trends to build an oasis, so ask yourself what makes you feel comfortable and start to spread that attitude into your home.

Metallics...

Metallics have been a favorite in modern interior design for a few years, and that’s not likely to change in the near future. They have a certain edge that adds attitude and sophistication simultaneously. Metallics come in many forms, and they can be overdone if you don’t know what you’re doing. So we’re here to help!

As with any new interior accent, you should start small if you haven’t done metallics before.

Try changing some of your hardware first – this will be subtle and almost never is overpowering. The kitchen and bathroom are the most likely places that you’ll see metallics in any room, so why not upgrade your cabinet handles and even some kitchen appliances to stunning chrome or silver?

From here, you can branch out if you like the look of the metallics you’ve incorporated thus far.

Candleholders are a favorite here at the Padstyle office. If you add a few metallic candleholders to your dining room table, they’ll stun guests the next time they’re lit. The bouncing flame reflecting off the mirrored metallic surface is a sight to be seen. When choosing the type of metallic candleholder, keep candle color in mind: cool candles like blue and green should be paired with silver or chrome holders, and warm candles like red or orange look best with gold or bronze. White candles look great with anything.

Metallic vases are also another accent piece you could consider. They come in all shapes and sizes, from tabletop vases for a single flower to floor vases.

Successfully decorating with metallics just takes a little creativity and a willingness to experiment.

Experiment with Rugs...

More and more people are choosing wood, composite, marble, tile, etc., for their homes instead of carpet which means that rugs are becoming more popular than ever. Of course, those who have carpet also enjoy adding rugs to save the carpet from wear and tear, add style and even cover stains. Some individuals have no problem just going into a store and picking up a few rugs but if you’re investing in a large expensive area rug, you may want to put a little thought into your decision.

Play with Your Furniture

Your furniture will play a role in determining not only the size and style of the rug but the placement as well. If you are someone who moves around your furniture from time to time, you will need to imagine all scenarios and if your rug will accommodate your creativity. Don’t be afraid to get out your measuring tape to measure the space, this may also help you determine if you want a square, rectangular or round rug.

Explore Your Options

Rugs should ultimately compliment your decor however, in a simplistic or contemporary room, they can quickly become a focal point if you want to add in a bright color or pattern. If you are looking for a rug to place under your dining room table, be sure that it’s large enough for all chairs to fit on it, there is nothing worse than sitting on an uneven chair that’s half on and half off a rug.

Runners are great for entryways, hallways and stairs while floor mats made from bamboo, rattan, sisal or any other natural material will add just the right amount of texture to your flooring.

Experiment

Don’t be afraid to combine several rugs in one room that don’t necessarily exactly match. This is a good way to break up a large space or studio apartment, giving each area its own identity. You may also want to layer rugs if you start feeling really creative.

Round Rugs...

The rug has been a part of interior design for generations, and it’s usually a safe bet for bringing any room together. But you don’t want to just be “safe” with your design, do you?

Rectangular rugs are safe, no doubt about it. There are some stunning ones available, featuring florals, geometric patterns, swirls, colors… A rectangular rug will always fit your room, so there’s no worrying about positioning or spacing. It’s a natural fit. Not so the circular rug.

A circular rug needs coaxing to look great, but if you get the sweet spot with positioning, color, pattern and texture, it will make your room pop.

Circle rugs are great for small spaces, as they open up a room. If the rug you choose is a bolder color than the colors around it, it will draw the eye inward, away from the walls, and make the space appear larger than it is.

Circles have no edges, no boundaries. They represent infinity, and when incorporated into a space, this sensation of never-ending form will permeate the atmosphere.

Think about adding a circular rug underneath a sofa to pull it, visually, away from the wall and move it towards the center of the room. Or, you can add a circular rug to the center of a room for a great, eye-catching symmetry.

The possibilities are as endless as the edge of a circle.

Today I am sharing two of the very modern homes I have reviewed in the past with a good friend of mine. These homes are perfect examples of the Post Modern, modern contemporary style of design. BOth are perfect examples of a modern contemporary homes.

Victoria Building by Geometry

Home and garden is an extension Victorian house inspired by the geometry. Addition of this house was wrapped in fine black zinc, with a layer along the path on the roof. Extending the living room and the external rear wall of the kitchen. An island unit cantilever wearing smooth black granite delineates the kitchen from the seating area.

A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE ON THE CLIFFS

Dream home with enough modern design and features asymmetrical sloping roof and is made from a mixture of concrete, polished cement, wood and natural stone town. Cliff House, designed by Khosla Associates, located in Kerala, India. The house has stunning views of the Arabian Sea coast and coconut plantation. House covers an area of 1397 square meters. Comfortable and clean interior is very comfortable for a holiday with family and friends.
